Must be applied with a heat press
- Prepress the garment to remove moisture and flatten the fiber
- Temperature : (330°F)
- Time : 8 seconds
- Pressure : firm (make sure to not scorch the fabric)
- Transfer can be covered with a teflon or parchment paper to avoid garment scorching
- Peel hot, as soon as you open the heat press
Upload your designs in the following requirements
- 300 dpi resolution
- Transparent background
- Minimum line weight of 4 pixels.
- Minimum recommended empty space between two lines is 2 pixels.
- Make sure your designs are not pixelated. Bad input will result in a bad output. Example : fuzzy edges.
- Vector art is suggested.
- Upload your designs in the exact color as they should be printed.
- Transfers are printed with Pantone Coated colors.
- Accepted files : .ai, .eps, .png, .psd
- Printable area is 12″ x 16″. For prepared gang sheets upload your sheet at 12″ x 16″ exactly.
- Upload art in a readable non-mirrored format

We have a small, alternative shirt company here in AB, Canada. We’ve been using Heat transfer Vinyl for runs of our designs for 2+ years and just got tired of prepping, cutting and weeding the same designs over and over. We took a chance on Tonatelier and have been extremely happy with the results.
We use them on Gildan softstyle 100% cotton shirts, cotton tote bags and cotton fabric.
We’ve done two orders of the Ultra Color Transfers. 6 shirt designs (600 transfer sheets) Our designs are 1 color (White) on Black tees. The opacity of the Ultra Color Transfers are great. It’s as opaque as the Heat transfer Vinyl we use but not thick vinyl. The feel is smooth and much softer.
It takes a bit to dial in the right temperature and pressure on your specific press to make them work. Once you do, it’s like magic. We save so much time now pressing our most popular designs with these transfers.
Some specifics. The 12×16” size is nice. You get that entire size to gang your designs. Our designs are around 12×12″ so we can fit one full design and 2 to 3 smaller designs which we use to make 5×7″ patches. This extra space is limited but would also be perfect for shirt collar tags. I do wish the transfers were large enough to fit multiple, large shirt designs on. That’s not really industry standard though…
Price/Value : The transfers are affordable. Start with their free sample pack and or a small order. For an extra $30 you can upgrade from 60 transfers to 100. Purolator Air is affordable and quick.
Service : We waited too long before submitting our designs we needed for an upcoming market. Ton Atelier went above and beyond and made our order a rush priority, got it printed and out the door in record time. We had enough time to test / print / tag and bag them for our festival market with time to spare. Thank you!
Issues / Things to consider : Very few issues thankfully! We noticed a tiny smudge on one of the designs (shows up on all the transfers) and some registration crosshairs were printed on the edge of a few of the transfers. (Not surprising since these were completed so quickly for us.)
Not a problem as we just double checked each transfer as we cut them down to size. You are able to just scratch the plastisol ink off of the transfer with the top edge of a box cutter. (Ink doesn’t come off with careful storage – just with a knife scraping)
The transfer carrier sheets are white and pretty opaque which makes placement tricky on your garment. (We are used to clear heat transfer vinyl backing sheets.) We cut the designs out tight to the edge, so we could get a sense of the design shape. We also figured out a center point on the design and made a light pencil line down the back of the sheets. (light box and ruler) This helped a lot with alignment.
The last thing to keep in mind is there is some white smoke that gets created while pressing these transfers. The transfers are dusted with a glue powder that helps the ink adhere to the garment. When it’s heated up, some of it becomes airborne. We didn’t know this was a thing and had to stop pressing and air out our workspace. Make sure you have good ventilation. We are currently setting up a proper inline fan extraction hood over the press. We also use a high quality respirator mask when pressing these transfers.
That’s our experience with these transfers. They are a lifesaver. 5 stars. I’m writing these right after submitting another 100 sheet order. Try them out!
